Welcome.......

Welcome to my 'small stone' blog.
I hope you find
something here that will touch your heart. The poems here will all be very short, some will be a Haiku style, and were prompted by the 'a river of stones' project: http://ariverofstones.blogspot.com/2011/01/what-is-small-stone.html
Please sign my
guest book, your comments will be much appreciated.

Poems from the Pit

Poetry and photographs relating to the Houghton Regis Chalk Pit nature reserve.

poems from the pit by Keith Wallis |

Situated alongside Houghton Road, Houghton Regis, the Chalk Pit is the remnant of a quarrying operation which began in the 1890’s and was a major industry for the locality.  The cessation of this in 1971 has left a number of ‘Marl’ lakes one of which is the deepest chalk marl lake in the UK.
The preservation area includes a smaller lake and further ‘seasonal’ lakes, fen and willow scrub. The site is designated a SSSI for its charophyte flora and rare molluscan fauna.
